Currently, there are three disc design variations for 25DP 5364 (The difference lies in the word that begins on the second line inside the red box. More precisely, it’s due to the absence or presence of the word ‘Renting’ and the difference in the company name at the end.). Furthermore, the presence or absence of tax information in the price code on the obi, and whether the mould hub stamp is CSR, SMJ, or mould SID code, result in even more versions of this catalog number.
• Absence or presence of tax means before or after 1989.4.1.
• Mould hub stamp ‘SMJ’ means after 1991 (SMJ stamping by Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. began in this year.)
• Absence or presence of the word ‘Renting’ means before or after around 1991 (When the May 1991 Copyright Act amendment, which established lending rights for overseas versions and prohibited rentals, led record company to begin marking their releases as «renting prohibited», but it was not mandatory.)
• The second line begins with «Performance, Broadcasting, Renting and Copying…»: The company name at the end of the text changed from «CBS/Sony Records, a Division of CBS/Sony Group Inc., Tokyo Japan» to «Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.». This disc design is frequently seen in versions with SID codes, so this change likely occurred after 1994.
• Presence of SID codes means after 1994 (late 1994).
(It appears that, immediately after its introduction around the fall of 1994, the stamping of the mould SID code took precedence in Sony affiliated pressing plant, and later the mastering SID code was added.)
Considering the above, there are five related versions of 25DP 5364 in chronological order, as follows:
1. «Broadcasting and Copying …» + ¥2,500 + CSR stamp: 1st press of this catalog number. [This entry] (1989.1.21~1989.3.31)
2. «Broadcasting and Copying …» + ¥2,348 + CSR stamp: 2nd edition of this catalog number, just obi-price code difference from the 1st press. Journey – Greatest Hits (1989.4.1~ )
3. «Renting and Copying…» + ¥2,348 + SMJ stamp: 3rd edition of this catalog number. Journey – Greatest Hits (1991~ )
4. «Renting and Copying …» + ¥2,348 + mould SID code: 4th edition of this catalog number. Journey – Greatest Hits (late 1994~ )
5. «Performance, Broadcasting, Renting and Copying …» + ¥2,348 + mould SID code: 5th edition of this catalog number. Journey – Greatest Hits (late 1994?, 95?~ )
